SING WITH US!

We love meeting new people, and we’d love to have you join us for rehearsal!

We rehearse on Tuesday afternoons, between 1.00-2.30pm, in the GA Woods hall (behind Scots Uniting Memorial Church), 26 Bathurst St, Hobart.

We sing a mix of well known and not so well known songs - expect to sing some old favourites but also to be challenged to learn something you may not know so well! Our emphasis is on having fun and growing together, not on being perfect the first time around!

Thinking of visiting us, but just a little nervous? We’d love to hear from you and answer any questions you may have - you can contact us by clicking the button at the bottom of this page.

Here’s what you can expect for your first rehearsal:

  1. Arrive a little early, 12.45pm, to allow yourself a little time to settle before rehearsal starts. One of our volunteers will greet you at the door, and will write you a name tag. They’ll also then help you to find a seat.

  2. Rehearsal starts at 1.00pm, with a physical and vocal warmup. We’ll do some gentle body stretches, followed by some easy, gentle vocal exercises.

  3. Around 1.15pm, we’ll sing our first song of the day! Expect it to be something upbeat, easy to sing, easy to love. Something to get our blood pumping and remember why we love singing!

  4. Next, we’ll probably do a little bit of focussed work on 1 or 2 new songs. This is when we’ll teach a new song, or keep learning a song for an upcoming concert.

  5. Around 2.00pm, we’ll take a short break. This is a great time to say hello to the people sitting around you, or just enjoy 5 mins of peace in an atmosphere of friends and laughter :)

  6. 2.10pm and we’ll kick away again with what we call ‘sharing time’. This is a time for anyone to share with the group anything that they’d like to share - it could be some great news they’ve had, or something they’ve seen that week, or a holiday they’re excited about. It’s also an opportunity to ask questions if we’re unsure on concert details - anything and everything is ok (but we always remember to be respectful and helpful to each other in our sharing and our conversation). You can totally feel free to share something in your first rehearsal if you want to! Most people take a few rehearsals to feel comfortable sharing in the group, but you can share whenever you are ready!

  7. Finally, we’ll sing through another 3-5 songs, generally things we know well and want to refresh for an upcoming concert.

  8. At 2.30pm, we’ll finish rehearsal, and everyone helps with the pack up before we enjoy some afternoon tea together. We each pack our own chair away, and watch for others that may need help to pack up. Afternoon tea is prepared for us by an amazing team of volunteers - and it’s always delicious!

  9. Your first rehearsal, done & dusted - well done! We hope you loved it! We’d love to see you again next week!
